The MIM process uses micron-level fine powders, which can accelerate the sintering shrinkage, help improve the mechanical properties of the material, extend the fatigue life of the material, and improve the resistance, stress corrosion resistance and magnetic properties. For materials that are too hard, too brittle and difficult to cut, or parts with complex geometric shapes, and materials that have segregation or contamination during casting, the MIM process can greatly save costs. Taking the guide rod of the printing element of a typewriter as an example, it usually requires 14 up-and-down processes; while the MIM process only needs 6 processes, which can save about half of the cost. When the ratio of material cost/manufacturing cost increases, the potential cost can be reduced even more. Therefore, the smaller and more complex parts are, the better the economic efficiency will be. Through the above analysis, it can be seen that the potential of MIM molding is great.
